FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Why hire a private investigator?

What information can I expect to obtain via a background investigation?
WHY HIRE A PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR?
Private investigators develop a significant amount of information from searching public records. "Public records" are just that...open and available to the public for review. So, why hire a private investigator if anyone can search these public records?
Competent private investigators are experienced in searching public records and are generally able to locate the required information quickly, often in a matter of minutes. Most individuals who attempt to research public records on their own will spend hours and sometimes days looking for information. Depending on the value of an individual's time, it is often more cost effective to hire a professional to complete the task. Also, an inexperienced person conducting a public records search may miss that important piece of information they are looking for.
A great deal of public record information is available via computerized commercial databases. However, this computerized information is not usually available to the general public. The advantage of using these databases is a significant reduction in the amount of time an investigator spends in the field, which saves the client money.
HOW EASY IS IT TO LOCATE SOMEONE?
In most cases, the more information provided about the person you are trying to locate, the lower the investigative costs. The cost of each investigation will vary, depending upon the amount of information you can initially provide.
WHAT INFORMATION WILL I NEED TO PROVIDE?
In an ideal situation, all of the following information would be available for us to begin a search. We realize that only a portion of these items may be available:
- Name
- Last known address
- Social Security Number
- Date of Birth
- Names of family members
WHAT ARE THE CHANCES FOR SUCCESS?
It is important to realize that not all people can be located as readily as others. People who are attempting to avoid creditors or who do not wish to be located for personal reasons can easily "hide" from the most sophisticated searches available. A successful search hinges on several things including the amount of initial information available on the subject, the subject's lifestyle (transient versus settled) and the subject's purposeful avoidance of creditors and others (ex-spouses, etc.)
WHEN WOULD A BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION BE BENEFICIAL?
There are several categories under which private parties find a background investigation useful:
- Boyfriends/girlfriends: To confirm or enhance information known about persons you are dating.
- Premarital: To obtain complete information on a potential spouse.
- Pre-employment: To obtain or confirm information related to those persons who are or will be in your employ, i.e., nanny, housekeeper, etc.
- Business relationships: To fully analyze a potential business relationship.
WHAT INFORMATION CAN I EXPECT TO OBTAIN VIA A BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION?
There is a wide variety of information available and the type of information obtained is tailored to the individual request. In this way, you only pay for the information that is addresses your concerns. Examples of the type of information available are:
- Local criminal prosecutions
- Involvement in prior litigation
- Prior marriages and divorces
- Assets
